Fuji-San Sakazuki 3-Piece Set

Beautiful sake cups in three colors inspired by the seasonal changes of Mt. Fuji

Our company manufactures and sells tableware and sake vessels made from Minoyaki, one of Japan's most renowned pottery styles. Boasting a history of over 1,400 years, Minoyaki is characterized by its wide range of products, from works by ceramic artists to tableware for domestic use, restaurants, and other commercial uses. By reading the trends of the times and accurately grasping consumer demand, we are constantly creating products that are suited to modern lifestyles.

Among our products, the Fuji-San Sakazuki 3-Piece Set features distinctive sake cups decorated in relief combining two of Japan's most iconic sights: Mt. Fuji and cherry blossoms. With the relief imitating the mountain's slopes, you can enjoy the image of Mt. Fuji when the cup is displayed upside down. When you flip it over to drink, the mountain becomes inverted, recreating the sight of Sakasa Fuji*. Additionally, the inside of the cup reveals a pattern of cherry blossoms, offering a glimpse of the beauty of Japanese Spring.

*Sakasa Fuji ("upside-down Fuji") refers to the inverted image of Mt. Fuji reflected on the surface of a lake, visible only when the weather is clear and windless, and the water is calm. It is considered a symbol of good luck.

Blue Fuji, Red Fuji, and Snow Fuji

Blue Fuji, Red Fuji, and Snow Fuji: a three-color sake cup set reflecting the scenery of Japan

Japanese people have always regarded Mt. Fuji as a symbol of good fortune, for several reasons. The first is the mountain's shape, which gently spreads from the summit down to the base in a form, called suehirogari, that symbolizes prosperity and gradual growth towards the future. The second reason is that the word "Fuji" evokes associations with Japanese homophones such as fushi (immortality) and buji (safety), adding a layer of positive symbolism. Thirdly, in Japanese culture, there is a belief that gods reside in objects and nature. As Japan's highest and most beautifully shaped peak, Mt. Fuji is considered a sacred mountain and is a subject of worship. The majestic figure of Mt. Fuji, which can only be seen under specific weather conditions or at certain times of the year, is particularly revered as an auspicious omen.

Our Fuji-San Sakazuki 3-Piece Set embodies the beautiful seasonal changes of Mt. Fuji and its special significance to the Japanese people. The three colors of the cups capture the scenery of Mt. Fuji throughout the seasons: the Blue Fuji evokes the blue of the sea and clear skies; the Red Fuji conjures the image of Mt. Fuji glowing red at dawn and dusk; the Snow Fuji represents the mountain in winter, covered in a blanket of white. Each cup has its own unique beauty and this set of three makes for the ideal gift to enjoy them all.

The outer side of each cup is adorned with a relief imitating Mt. Fuji's slopes, making it visually appealing even as a decorative piece. The inside features cherry blossoms reliefs at the center and rim, so that when sake is poured into the cup you can enjoy the delicate beauty of the flowers as if they were floating on the liquid surface.
