NK-OPTIS is a temperature monitoring system that utilizes optical fibers as temperature sensors. Monitoring temperatures allows for the detection of potential disasters and accidents in plants and infrastructure facilities, contributing to predictive maintenance.

NK-OPTIS consists of three components: the optical fiber serving as a sensor, the DTS sensor system that measures long-distance temperature distribution based on the data collected by the optical fiber, and the GS-OPTIS (Graphic Software OPTIS), which visualizes the measurement data. GS-OPTIS graphically displays the temperature profile of the monitored range, including historical data and trend graphs.

NK-OPTIS is widely used abroad and has a proven track record in measuring temperature distribution in a wide range of fields. Specific applications include oil transportation pipelines, belt conveyors, chemical plants, geothermal facilities, tunnels, power cables for windfarm and solar power generation, and data center temperature monitoring.

DTS (Distributed Temperature Sensing)

One of the key components of NK-OPTIS, DTS is a unique temperature measurement device that uses optical fibers as sensors. By simply installing optical fibers on the object to be measured, it is possible to continuously and accurately measure and monitor temperature distribution in real-time. Because the measurement is made utilizing Raman backscattering generated by laser pulses incident on the optical fiber, it is unaffected by electromagnetic induction, allowing for safe and continuous measurements even in explosive environments. DTS can be installed in a 19-inch rack or mounted on a wall. Temperature conditions are continuously monitored on-screen, and alarms are issued if any temperature changes are detected. This device complies with product certification standards in Europe, the United States, and other countries, such as VdS (Vertrauen durch Sicherheit) and UL (Underwriters Laboratories).

GS-OPTIS, a tool that visualizes monitoring results from the DTS, is an advanced graphic software for temperature monitoring. This software visualizes up to 800 sections with 16-color temperature displays, showing temperature distribution profiles, specific location temperatures, and trend graphs of temperature history. It also features extensive alarm functions, such as notifications for fiber breaks and temperature changes, enabling detailed monitoring.

Temperature monitoring of sulfur transport pipelines

In pipelines that utilize the optical fiber sensing technology, optical sensor cables are installed on the pipes to monitor temperature. This system allows for the early detection of pipeline leaks, sulfur conditions within the pipes, and any abnormalities in the transportation equipment. It is possible to measure temperature distribution over distances of up to 70 kilometers. This technology is widely used worldwide and has been applied to power cables, tunnels, plants, and other facilities.
