Globally, approximately one in six people live in homes with masonry walls (e.g., brick, concrete blocks). It's estimated that over 75% of fatalities from past earthquakes were due to the collapse of these masonry walls. However, strengthening existing masonry structures isn't easy.
Our company was founded with the mission to achieve "zero earthquake casualties" by addressing this challenge. We have developed and commercialized a completely new concept: seismic reinforcement through "paintable seismic resistance" (Aster Power Coating®). By simply applying this protective wall coating to masonry walls, existing buildings can be seismically retrofitted easily and affordably, without the need for rebuilding. This is Aster Power Coating®.

Aster Power Coating®: An Easy-to-Apply Coating for Wall Reinforcement

This photo was taken by Aster CEO Suzuki during a post-disaster survey in Italy in 2016. The children's toys scattered among the rubble serve as a poignant reminder of the innocent lives lost in devastating earthquakes.
This technology carries the mission of "zero earthquake casualties." The prototype for the current product was originally developed 20 years ago for the maintenance and management of aging concrete structures. Subsequently, based on collaborative research with the University of Tokyo, it was refined for the specific application of seismic reinforcement, leading to the creation of the current Aster Power Coating®.

Aster Power Coating®

Aster Power Coating® is a high-quality, water-based coating that combines paint with glass fibers. Unlike conventional products, it offers remarkable flexibility, allowing it to bend and flex. This optimizes both strength and elongation, enabling masonry structures to exhibit sufficient strength and deformation capacity during earthquakes.
This product fortifies wall surfaces, making them highly resistant to cracks. The coating is also water-resistant, mold-resistant, and maintains a high gloss. It's easy to use with standard paint rollers, trowels, or rubber spatulas, meaning anyone with basic painting or plastering skills can apply it with ease.
Currently, it's sold in Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Local staff quickly mastered its application, praising it as "as easy as applying wall putty."
