A Leading Brand of Edo Kiriko Glassware: Hanashyo

A supreme masterpiece blending masterful craftsmanship with innovation
Edo Kiriko, born in Edo (modern-day Tokyo) in the early 19th century and developed with the incorporation of British cut glass techniques, has evolved into one of Japan's finest glass crafts. Recognized as a traditional craft of Tokyo in 1985 and designated a National Traditional Craft in 2002, the intricate patterns cut into the glass surface are a testament to the craftsmanship passed down by Edo Kiriko artisans.
Since its founding in 1946, our company has continuously pushed forward, embracing innovation while staying rooted in traditional techniques. We aim to create works that evoke awe and emotion by combining refined craftsmanship and new expressions. In 2024, our second-generation master artisan, Ryuichi Kumakura, was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays*, further elevating attention to his remarkable creations.
Our company offers two distinctive series: the Hanashyo Premium series, showcasing the pinnacle of artisanal craftsmanship through one-of-a-kind masterpieces, and the Hanashyo Regular series, which features traditional and original patterns. These pieces are cherished not only as drinkware and tableware but also as Japanese-inspired decorative items appreciated worldwide.

Inherited craftsmanship and refined beauty
Another defining feature of our Edo Kiriko is that every step of the process is done by hand. Among these, the most critical is the hand-polishing process. While most workshops rely on acid polishing using chemicals like sulfuric acid or hydrofluoric acid—methods that not only harm the environment but also risk dulling the brilliance of the cuts by dissolving their surfaces—we meticulously complete the polishing process entirely by hand. This approach preserves the sharpness of the cuts while enhancing the natural radiance of the glass to its fullest potential.
With pride and dedication, we continue to craft authentic Edo Kiriko that harmonizes the transparent brilliance of glass with the delicate beauty of intricate patterns, delivering these masterpieces to our customers.

The one-of-a-kind masterpiece, Hanashyo Premium, and Hanashyo Regular, which adds a touch of refined brilliance to everyday life
Highly acclaimed by Japanese restaurants abroad, these exquisite vessels complement luxurious cuisine and serve as distinctive elements to set establishments apart. Among them, the Guinomi sake glass is particularly popular, with their delicate designs enhancing the flavor of sake and creating special moments. These pieces are also ideal for elevating anniversary celebrations or as collectibles.
On the other hand, the Hanashyo Regular series offers designs perfect for everyday use, bringing elegance to daily life. Each glass is meticulously hand-finished, showcasing its stunning brilliance and making them perfect gifts. The series includes the Master's Model designed by the second-generation artisan, the highly appreciated Gift Selection, the Pair Items featuring two different designs, and a variety of glassware, including the ever-popular Guinomi. With its diverse lineup, the Hanashyo Regular series is sure to add charm to any occasion.
