ROOT SHELF: The design of the Root Shelf was inspired by tree roots
NY& furniture creates a space for people and cats to live together in comfort. Practical and designed with feline health in mind, each piece brings colorful new experiences into your and your cat’s daily lives. “NY&” (pronounced “nyando”) is a portmanteau of the word “and” with nyan, the Japanese equivalent of “meow.” Through these two meanings, NY& signifies a life together with your cat.
The NY& furniture line up mainly consists of three types of shelves (Root, Cave, and Tree) and two types of consoles (Deck and Cabin) that can be combined in several ways to create an original combination just right for your home and your cats.
ROOT SHELF
This bookshelf and display shelf consists of many boxes attractively stacked like the roots of a tree. Because it is L-shaped, it is great for positioning in the corner of a room or by a window. Thanks to its low height and the closeness of the shelves to the floor, it goes very well with carpets and rugs. The heights of the various horizontal surfaces have been set so the shelves can also be used for seating or as a desk. A stool is included.
CAVE SHELF
These shelves are designed to be hidey-holes that a cat can’t help but want to perch in. The passages between different shelves make them easy to climb, but they can also be used for lights or tall vases that wouldn’t normally fit. The shelf comes with covers for the holes, so adjustments can be made to emphasize either the role of decorative shelf or “catwalk” for your pet. The shelf also makes an excellent room partition.
TREE SHELF
Made from cubes stacked in the form of a spiral staircase, the design for this bookshelf and display shelf takes inspiration from a tree. The heights of the various horizontal surfaces have been set so that the shelves can be sat upon or used as a desk. This shelf has countless interior design possibilities, such as placing it around a room pillar that otherwise tends to become dead space or combining the shelf with an existing sofa or desk to make a room partition.
BOARD Series
The NY& BOARD series consists of two pieces: a TV stand/console and a litter box holder/cat hidey-hole. It is multipurpose, high-performance, and space-saving: great for you and your feline family. These pieces can be used as TV stands, benches, impromptu tables, or as a space for work. They are excellent for storing supplies for your cat, such as its litter box, or for storing electronics. With a simple appearance that suits any room, they can be used in endless ways.
By combining the NY& Board Deck and Cabin consoles, you can make your home even more comfortable for you and your cat. They will create a new space for relaxation in your living room.
ISLE RUG Series
This is the second product from our NY& brand: a rug made especially for cats. To a cat, the top and inside of your furniture is as much a part of their home as anywhere. This little rug “island” is made specially for your feline companion and can serve as a slip-preventer, claw-sharpener, post-litter-box foot-wiper, and (naturally) somewhere to take a nap. Your cat will be the ruler of a little island that also protects your furniture. NY& Isle Rug is available in three colors.

Completely Built to Order
Every one of our pieces is lovingly handmade by furniture artisans at our factory in Asahikawa, a city famous for furniture manufacturing. We deliver the reliable quality of made-in-Japan products.
NY& furniture is made from laminated solid natural wood with a protective coating. The coating ensures its long life as room furniture and provides the strength needed for various design features. For safety, we also round off the corners to large triangles just in case you or your cat bump into the furniture.

SHELF Series
For humans, we have designed elements of the NY& SHELF Series to be a suitable height to function as a seat or be used with a desk. For cats, we have designed various routes to encourage cats to climb up and down, giving them indoor exercise and helping keep them physically and mentally healthy. The shelves can also be used as casual room partitions, creating new spaces to allow for family members with different lifestyle rhythms.

BOARD Series
The pieces in the NY& Board series can be arranged to fit the available space. They have various uses: for storage, for sitting, as a cat hidey-hole, and as a combination cat toilet and stand for TV or other home appliances. As well as being attractively designed, they are also practical, including not just storage space, but also openings for electric cables and doors that open widely, slowly, and safely. We have found it especially useful as a place to hide your cat’s litter box.
