Accessible, Affordable, and Repeatable: The ESS Training Model Basic Series

NIKKEN CORPORATION

The ESS Training Model Basic Series

Developed specifically for medical students, residents, and early-career surgeons seeking to refine their foundational skills in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (ESS).

We have engineered a specialized training tool for mastering the fundamental handling of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (ESS) instruments.
Traditionally, high-fidelity medical training models have been prohibitively expensive, creating a significant barrier for practitioners who need consistent, daily hands-on practice. Recognizing this gap, we collaborated with frontline surgeons to develop a training model from the ground up. By meticulously testing various materials to match clinical feedback, we have successfully replicated the tactile resistance and feel of human tissue in a cost-effective format.

ESS TRAINING MODEL BASIC BODY & TRAINING BOX 4STYLES

Master four essential ESS techniques with a single, low-cost platform designed for high-frequency repetition in university hospitals and residency programs.

This system consists of a durable base unit and four interchangeable training modules. By simply swapping the internal modules, users can focus on specific surgical skills at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods. More affordable than 3D-printed models and far less cumbersome than wet labs, our solution is widely used for resident education, hands-on workshops at academic conferences, and endoscopic equipment demonstrations by medical device manufacturers. The realistic haptic feedback ensures that the training translates directly to clinical proficiency. Furthermore, our modules are primarily paper-based, supporting eco-friendly initiatives by reducing plastic waste.

Base Unit Size: Approx. D170 x W120 x H100mm (Compact Kit).
Module Size: D65 x W50 x H60mm.
*Please use with the included adjustable stand and angle adjustment tool.
Four Essential Training Modules

Detailed Breakdown of Training Modules

Four Essential Training Modules:
1. Forceps Technique: Practice precision handling with both 0-degree and 70-degree endoscopes. Dual-layer silicone sheets simulate tissue, allowing users to practice resections while maintaining awareness of posterior and lateral margins.
2. Suturing: Perform bilateral suturing on a simulated nasal septum. This module is effective for developing needle control in a narrow surgical field. (Note: Nylon sutures with attached needles are not included and should be prepared separately.)
3. Microdebrider: Develop the accuracy required for endonasal and sinus debridement. This eliminates the need for messy, organic alternatives like bell peppers, streamlining lab preparation.
4. Drilling (Bone Removal): Master drill angles and steady handling in narrow spaces. The module features simulated bone surfaces and internal vessels to provide realistic tactile feedback. An optional pressure pump can be used to simulate arterial injury within the bone.

Trusted by the Japan Rhinologic Society and Leading University Hospitals

Our models are a staple at the Japan Rhinologic Society’s annual hands-on seminars for beginners and are utilized by numerous university hospitals for undergraduate medical training. Because they require minimal setup, they are also the preferred choice for medical device manufacturers during endoscopic product demonstrations.

Expert Commentary from a Leading Otolaryngologist:
”This training model makes high-precision endoscopic instrument practice both affordable and infinitely repeatable. It is an exceptionally effective tool for medical students, residents, and any practitioner dedicated to refining their foundational surgical skills.”
